Quotes : Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau, has always been my source of inspiration. In my sad times, i always read his quotes, to get some inspiration, and a reason to proceed in my endeavors. Thoreau had said many things, but these  quotes have inspired me a lot than any. I have followed these sayings, and are close to my life. They have given me a reason to live and have a philosophical goal towards my life:

  • “I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
  • “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.”
  • “Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.”
  • “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away.”
  • “be yourself- not your idea of what you think somebody else's idea of yourself should be.”
  • “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.”
  • “Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have friends at a distance; they make the latitudes and longitudes.”
  • “Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.”
  • “Not till we are completely lost or turned around... do we begin to find ourselves.”
  • “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined.”
  • “Things do not change; we change.”
  • “However mean your life is, meet it and live it.”
  • “One is not born into the world to do everything but to do something.”
  • “Dreams are the touchstones of our characters.”
  • “I have never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude.”
